Honey, the right white sugar substitute

Maurizio Pitzolu • Sep 26, 2022

Not only healthier but also a less caloric solution.

Sugar is a product that could damage our body if not used carefully. But at the same time many bitter products cannot be eaten by the majority of the people without some suite flavor on it.

How can we then achieve the same suite result without sacrificing the taste of what we are eating? Simple, with honey!

Why is honey a good substitute for white sugar?

White sugar, which is commonly used as a sweetener in milk, coffee, tea or many recipes, is mainly made of sucrose. This element makes sugar a food that if not used properly and without exaggeration, risks becoming an enemy of our organism. Honey, even if it has the same caloric content, however, is considered a less dangerous product. Of course, it also depend on the honey, so be carefull on what you buy, but in general, if honey is organic and coming from trustable suppliers this natural product can replace sugar with much more beneficial

effects on human body. The reason why this product is healthier than sugar is that honey is composed in greater percentage of fructose while sugar is made by sucrose in higher percentage. Fructose is a sugar that is found in higher amounts in fruit and it contains a significantly lower glycemic value unlike sucrose.

In addition we can also talk about calories: in percentage the caloric intake of honey is higher than that of sugar but the difference lies in the intake in fact thanks to the higher sweetening capacity of the honey, we normally take less honey than sugar to have the same suite level. In this way, then we take a smaller amount of calories!

Why then replace sugar with honey?

In addition to sugars and calories, we should also remember  that honey is rich in beneficial properties that sugar does not bring to our body. It is already  demonstrated by science (and not anymore on grandmother storytelling)

that honey is rich in vitamins, minerals and amino acids and also antioxidants

against free radicals. This food, moreover, is particularly recommended in case of seasonal ills because it helps to relieve the symptoms of colds and flu.

Another strength of this superfood is found in digestion: in fact is produced through the process of digestion of bees and for this reason, when we take it, it does not need further digestive processes. In this way the sugar that we take with it immediately enters into our body and gives immediate strong revitalization of our organism.

But be carefull in what honey you buy!

As said anyway, be carefull on what you buy and try to find an healthy honey: frauds are becoming every day more frequent and a great quantity of adulterated honey is around both in GDO and in small markets.
We at
Asphodel have hard rules that bring our beekeepers to be always respectfull of the honey quality and of the bees health, so our product is guaranteed: try to believe!
